Like many public libraries, Marion’s is a community hub — a welcoming haven for readers, community groups, kids of all ages, even makers. In 2020, the Marion Public Library had already outgrown its space when a derecho hit. The vicious windstorm devastated parts of Eastern Iowa and damaged the library. The time had come to build anew. So the Marion Public Library turned to Amperage for strategic guidance and assistance.
An Amperage feasibility study recommended the library proceed with a capital campaign for $3 million. At the same time, the pandemic presented all kinds of challenges to traditional fundraising.
Our plan: Tweak our proven fundraising strategy for the situation. While the campaign structure was the same, we recommended a pivot to the web for digital campaign tools, including the video and case statement.
It worked. Although the pandemic got in the way of in-person appeals, the campaign exceeded the financial goal.
